3 Importance of cleaning your lashes

INTRODUCTION

If you have eyelash extensions, you might be tempted to skip the step of regularly cleaning your lashes at the end of the day many people don’t know how important this is. Failing to clean your lashes regularly could lead to a range of problems from eye infections, to the damage to your natural lashes. In this post, we’ll share with you our top 3 reasons why you should clean your lashes on a regular basis.

CLEAN LASHES=BETTER RETENTION

Where lashes have been exposed to a lot of oil(whether from naturally occurring oils in the skin, or products that contain oil such as mi-cellar water, non oil free makeup and other skincare) they generally won’t last long. This is especially the case if oils is not cleaned off regularly using a foam cleanser,as eventually it will start to degrade the adhesive bonds, resulting in poor lash retention. Clean lashes do last longer.

LASH HEALTH

When skin cells, makeup and oil/serum are allowed to build up on the lash line some bacteria will start feasting on your lashes, over time these bacteria’s multiply and create a structure called biofilm. If your eye lashes are not cleaned properly, soon this biofilm becomes a toxic environment. Then these parasitic eyelash mites called demodex who love to feed on the biofilm can over populate in between your lashes, causing the painful eyelid and lash loss.

STRONGER ADHESIVE BONDING

Another reason to keep your lashes clean is to make sure you have the best bond between your natural lash, the adhesive and lash extension. Have you ever tried to put tape on a surface that wasn’t clean? the tape sticks to the debris and not the surface causing it to fall off. The same thing happens when we apply an extension, if the surface of the lash isn’t clean, the adhesive bonds to the debris and not the natural lash causing it to pop off quickly making sure your lashes are washed before lash appointment will make sure you have the best retention possible.

CONCLUSION

It’s a common myth that you can’t get your lashes wet after you get extensions,if you do the water will compromise the integrity of the adhesive and you’ll lose all those beautiful lashes. But this couldn’t be further from the truth, you should be cleaning your lashes if not daily aleast every 2 to 3 days with a specially formulated lash shampoo.
